NeverAlone for People with Type 1 Diabetes

The Founding of NeverAlone

Hello, my name is Marie and I am fifteen years old. Right after I turned two years old I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. At six years old I started on a Medtronic MiniMed insulin pump. For the past five years I have been on the Deltec Cozmo.
Last summer, I was having difficulty accepting my diabetes. I just wanted to be "normal." Then last summer I went to a local week-long summer camp as a day camper where one of my counselors had Type 1 Diabetes. We had some wonderful conversations and it helped me so much just to be able to talk to someone about my daily life and know that he understood what I was going through. Without even knowing it, he helped me to realize that I was "normal" in my own way. That got me through until this past summer, when I started to have similar feelings. While on vacation we met the neighbors of the house we were staying at, and their young daughter also had Type 1 Diabetes. I also recently enjoyed seeing and talking with my two first-cousins-once-removed who also have Type 1 Diabetes and who were a huge encouragement!

I am convinced that God brought these people into my life at just the right time to show me that I was Not Alone in my walk through diabetes; there are other people out there who also need to know that others are going through the same hard things. At that time, I wrote a song, which I entitled Not Alone. I wanted to do something, but I didn't know what, or how. I decided I had to get in the diabetic community and meet some others with diabetes. So I started this website to get my story out there and let others know that they are Not Alone in their walk with diabetes.
